A new and vibrant, $250,000 digital art projection could be part of next year’s Cairns Festival celebrations.

Council will apply to the Australian Government’s Arts and Cultural Development Program grant stream, Festivals Australia, for $100,000 to support the delivery of the large-scale project.

The proposed art activation is seen as an opportunity to stimulate the recovery of the local arts sector through an activation that will attract cultural tourism and increase local resilience in the sector.

The project will support regional artists, drive local employment and re-engage audiences in the region after the significant impacts of COVID-19.

If successful in the obtaining grant funding, Council will also allocate $150,000 from its Cairns Festival budget to help fund the project.
