Growing environmental learning opportunities MEDIA RELEASE

Seven schools will share in $10,000 of funding to provide students with nature-based learning experiences.

Council today approved the funding from the 2020/21 Nature Based Learning Grant to help the following schools meet the cost of environmentally focussed excursions:

Bentley Park College - $2,000Cairns State High School - $1,200Freshwater Christian College - $1,200Smithfield State High School - $1,200Trinity Bay State High School - $1,200Trinity Beach State School - $1,200Parramatta State School - $2,000

Council also approved $12,500 in funding from the 2020-21 Community Sustainability Grant to help six organisations to deliver environmental initiatives.

The six successful applicates were:

Marlin Coast Neighbourhood Centre - $1,568Bayview Heights Community Kindergarten - $952Edmonton Community Kindergarten - $3,438Access Community Housing - $1,000Cairns and the Far North Environment Centre - $3,438The Agile Wallaby Project - $2,104
