The Moree Plains Shire community is invited to attend the community paint day for Moree’s Blue Tree this Saturday 24 October from 11 am.
The Blue Tree is a symbol used to raise awareness and start meaningful conversations about mental health, where to receive support and how to support a person struggling with a mental illness.
Council’s Director of Planning and Community Development, Angus Witherby highlights, “The day is made for the whole Moree Plains community, join us on the day to spread paint and have a meaningful discussion about mental health, learn about local mental health services and where to get support.
“A very big thank you to some of the other supporters of this initiative in the community. In particular, thank you to Mitre 10 and Wattyl Paints for the donation of that striking blue paint. While we will be painting the tree blue, the community is also welcome to paint a message onto a river stone which will be cemented around the base of the tree.
“Mental health services will also be in attendance on the day to provide information about where people can go to receive support and how to support a person struggling with a mental illness”, said Mr Witherby.
The tree is located near the Moree Regional Airport, north of the Puma fuel stop on the left of the Newell Highway. The public can enter the community paint day via Harry Sullivan Ave and park along Carmine Munro Ave.
All activities are being conducted under the requirements of the NSW Public Health Order and social distancing measures will be in place. On arrival community members will be allocated a 5-minute time slot to paint the tree and while waiting, be able to paint a message onto a river stone or chat with a mental health service.
If you or someone you know needs help, support is available. We encourage you to contact one of the agencies below.
