Move over Copenhagen, Amsterdam and Montreal… Manly is about to get more pedestrian and cyclist-friendly with a 12-month shared space trial.
There is no doubt Manly is one of our busiest town centres all year round and we're planning to make parts of the CBD safer for walking and cycling.
Over the next 12 months, we will be trialling a walking and cycling-friendly link from the intersection of Darley Road with Wentworth Street all the way to Kangaroo Lane to the north via Sydney Road and Belgrave Street.
We think this will improve access and create safer spaces for local residents and visitors in and around Manly town centre, creating vibrancy and supporting local businesses.
Meanwhile, the shared space is expected to be great for local businesses with additional outdoor seating on Darley Road, The Corso, and Whistler Street.
Pedestrians will experience a safer space for walking and cyclist will reap the benefits with safer dedicated cycleways and a 10 km/h posted speed limit in these locations.
Construction is expected to begin in November and be completed for December 2020.
Let us know what you think about the new shared space trial before it kicks off so we can ensure the trial is successful.
We also plan to check in with the community to hear your thoughts over the 12-month trial period.
This project is proudly funded by the NSW Government in association with Northern Beaches Council.
