Earlier this month, Council granted a total of $95,150 to 26 local artists and creative organisations via its new Arts and Creativity Grants program, which supports the Northern Beaches vibrant arts community.
We love keeping in touch with recipients and learning about the great things they are doing for the community. One worthy recipient, The Plant Room, was awarded $3,800 to develop a video series of live music performances to support local musicians in the industry.

The Mayor dropped into the inaugural Sound Check last Friday to catch some local music and chat with #1 hit-maker Leo Sayer. The event took place at The Plant Room, a Brookvale based, arts and creative industries hub, and is part of a music project supported by Northern Beaches Council through its latest round of Arts & Creativity Grants.
The project is about providing an online performance platform for emerging and prominent music artists, at the same time fostering a supportive community and mentorship within the local music scene. Sound Check is part of a development process that will culminate in an initial season of 8eigth streamed episodes of the ‘In The Plant Room’ series, targeting Northern Beaches talent Eagle Eye Jones, Ocean Alley, Lime Cordiale and Winston Surfshirt among others.
The idea was conceived by local filmmaker John Meredith and is being produced through his production partnership Bass Culture in association with Full Moon Hot Sun and The Plant Room - all Brookvale-based creative businesses. Bass Culture is also working closely with the La Crème Creative initiative Brookvale Arts District (B.A.D), to develop future opportunities for local music.
Several local businesses have already come on board to provide their support, including Evergreen Music, Berkelo and Camera Hire.
The event last Friday was attended by local music acts Eagle Eye Jones and Lux Trevis with Leo Sayer offering up some of his 40 plus years of industry experience, wisdom and a whole lot of fun.
