Did you know the Port Jackson Shark is an egg laying shark?

This iconic species is drawn to shallow coastal areas like Cabbage Tree Bay that provides a sheltered habitat for them between June and November.

They migrate from their feeding grounds in the Bass Strait to mate and deposit their eggs.

Marine ecologist Sian Liddy says that this placid shark lays a spiral-shaped egg that takes 9 – 12 months to develop.

Ms Liddy says that Cabbage Tree Bay Aquatic Reserve is an essential sheltered habitat for this shark along with the rest of this precious reserve’s marine biodiversity.
