Maintenance of our road network is constantly being reviewed, focusing on forward planning of works across the Council with works being ‘program’ rather than ‘time’ based; while still taking into account Council’s road priority listing.

Despite some local issues, the road system continues to perform well generally under trying conditions.

The recent climatic conditions continue to prove challenging for ongoing road maintenance activities with recent heavy rainfall causing localised washouts on some roads. Targeted unsealed road maintenance is being undertaken to improve road drainage (and identify possible new locations where drainage may be required), reshape and widen roads (where practical), remove roadside vegetation and re-use the accumulation of gravel along the side of the road as part of the unsealed grading program. Unsuitable material is also being removed from the road edge to assist in allowing water to drain from the road surface and is not used on the road.

Additionally, more signs and guideposts will appear on the road sides as we implement this program to improve road safety and better road definition.

While this work will take some time to complete it will allow our roads to better cope with normal upcoming rain events while at the same enable an assessment of road conditions to be conducted as we move through the Council area to ensure that depleting suitable natural gravel supplies are used responsibly.

Where works have been delayed, the previously advised dates have been revised to reflect changes to the program brought about by unexpected delays in current projects caused by weather, additional works required, machinery breakdowns and the like.
