Council’s COVID-19-safe swimming season this summer

Things might look a little different this summer but swimming season will still start with a splash when the pools open in Yass and Binalong at the end of October.

The swimming season will kick off this Saturday, 31 October 2020 and will run until Friday, 26 March 2021. The pools are open every day during this period except for Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Patrons will be able to purchase season ticket passes and enrol in swimming lesson programs and aqua aerobics classes via Council’s new online portal, which can be found: HERE.

Payment is required in full when enrolling and pre-booking of classes will be required. Bookings will not be restricted and participants will be able to register for more than one session at a time.

The COVID-19 health pandemic has seen the NSW Government introduce Public Health Orders across the State in an effort to limit the risk of community transmission of the virus. The orders require the implementation of a COVID-19 Safety Plan as prescribed by NSW Health.

Within Council’s COVID-19 Safety Plan, the following measures will be in place this summer:

Physical distancing to be observed within the facilities. Total numbers permitted entry in the swimming pool complex will be limited to 226 at Yass Pool and 70 at Binalong Pool. Swim classes to have no more than 20 participants, plus instructor, per class. Swim class participants must maintain 1.5 metre physical distance. The change rooms and shower facilities be generally closed except for school groups on a case-by-case basis and for use by disabled patrons. Patrons are encouraged to arrive at the pools ‘swim ready.’ Toilets will remain open. Food and drinks at the canteen will be restricted to pre-packaged hot foods, ice creams, sweets and drinks.

Also included in the plan, is the provision for additional staff to undertake a thorough cleaning schedule of touch surfaces every two hours and to encourage patrons to adhere to social distancing within the pool grounds. An additional amount of $69, 620 will be funded within the Infrastructure and Assets Operational Budget for both Yass and Binalong pools to deliver these measures.

“Council understands how much our community loves swimming at Yass and Binalong Pools and staff are working very hard to ensure our facilities are COVID-19 safe during the summer months,” said Yass Valley Mayor, Rowena Abbey.

“The public can help us by getting ready at home, heeding the advice of our lifeguards, trying not to congregate in large groups and pre-booking for classes online.”

2020/2021 Opening Hours Yass Pool Binalong Pool 31 October - 24 December: Daily 11am - 6.30pm 31 October - 24 December: Weekdays 3pm - 6.30pm & Weekends 1pm - 6.30pm 27 December - 28 February: Daily 10am - 7.30pm 27 December - 31 January: Daily 1pm - 7.30pm 1 March - 26 March: Weekdays 2pm-6.30pm & Weekends 12.30pm - 6.30pm 1 February - 26 March: Weekdays 3pm-6.30pm & Weekends 1pm - 6.30pm.

YVC Swimming program Commences on Monday, 9 November 2020 and will run until the end of the swimming season, YVC Swimming program is held every week day afternoon. This season - YVC Swimming program will be broken up in to two groups: Stroke Correction and Competitive training Please note: To ensure all children are grouped correctly based on their swimming ability, Yass Valley Swimming Program will be conducting assessments on all swimmers from Monday, 2 November at 3.30pm. Cost: $143 for the first child, $123 each additional child.
