Snowy Monaro Regional Council is encouraging our community to have their say on the future management of the region’s Crown Reserves.
Under the Crown Land Management Act 2016, the responsibility for the management of an additional 70 Crown Reserves has been handed to Council, as the Crown Reserve Manager. The Crown Land Management Act 2016 came into effect on 1 July 2018. The Act changes the management of Crown Reserves, with councils now managing Crown Reserves as public land under the Local Government Act 1993.
Crown Reserves classified as ‘community land’ will be governed by Plans of Management (PoMs) made under the Local Government Act 1993. Council has appointed SLR Consulting to undertake the PoMs.
Plans of Management set out objectives and performance targets for community land and provide for active land management and use, including the issuing of tenures over the land.
Council, in collaboration with SLR Consulting, are seeking feedback from users and stakeholders of the Crown Reserves to better understand their use and future management objectives.
A list of the relevant reserves is available at Your Say Snowy Monaro or at any Council office and library. The list contains information on the Crown endorsed categorisation, preliminary use designation and management objectives.
Our community can provide feedback online through Your Say Snowy Monaro, in writing to Council, or by attending a drop-in session at the following locations and times. • Cooma office committee room: Tuesday 10 November from 2pm to 4pm. • Bombala office chambers room: Wednesday 11 November from 10am to 12pm. • Jindabyne Memorial Hall supper room: Wednesday 11 November from 2pm to 4pm.
Due to COVID 19 restrictions, attendees are requested make a reservation to attend these sessions. Please call Lyn Bottrill on 1300 345 345 to book a time slot.
The feedback period closes Tuesday 24 November 2020.
