More than 20,000 cubic metres of sand will be deposited along the Holloways Beach foreshore later this year to address significant erosion.

Council has awarded a $683,000 contract to Hall Contracting Pty Ltd for the sand nourishment works, starting later this year subject to contractor availability and weather.

The project incorporates funding received through the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangement for sand nourishment along 750 metres of foreshore to the north of the Holloways Beach stinger net enclosure. Sand dredged near the mouth of Richter*s Creek will be used for the works.

Council has also flagged the possibility of extending the contract to include up to an additional 10,000 cubic metres of sand if funding was available.

A three-year, $2.84 million, contract for the continued maintenance dredging of Blue Water canal has also been awarded to Hall Contracting Pty Ltd.

A report tabled at Council noted that awarding both contacts to Hall Contracting Pty Ltd, resulted in a combined saving of more than $100,000.
