Warriewood Valley, once known for its rural land and market gardens, is a growing community on the Northern Beaches. And with the increasing number of people calling the area home, there is a need for an improved range of quality facilities and programs for all generations.
Many existing facilities are at capacity or need to be replaced or upgraded.
As part of Council’s commitment to providing quality facilities for the community, Council plans to build a new multi-use community centre on the existing site of the Nelson Heather Centre on the corner of Jacksons and Pittwater Roads.
Council will soon lodge a development application for the $11.5 million community centre with construction expected to commence in mid-2021.
The centre will be an attractive, modern and resilient building with the capacity to switch to an Emergency and Recovery Centre during a period of community crisis. The plan has been drawn up with future needs in mind and the building is developed in line with best-practice sustainability principles.
The building will have foyer spaces which facilitate the use of the space as a “community living room”, complete with seating, kitchenette facilities and interactive displays, ventilation with filtration systems to cater for bush fire, pollen and COVID events, and reduced reliance on the power grid to name a few resilient measures built into its design.
As well, it will have five multi-purpose halls suited to a wide range of sport and recreation activities, two multi-purpose meeting rooms, large covered outdoor spaces which overlook landscaped gardens and modern and accessible amenities including showers and lockers.
The new community centre will provide additional space and parking as identified in the Warriewood Valley Development Contribution Plan.
