Pet owners can rest easy knowing their lost cat or dog is safe at Wyndham City’s new pound site.
From 30 October, all pound services will relocate from their current location on Old Geelong Road, to a new, state-of-the-art facility at Unit 1, 6 Wallace Avenue in Point Cook – the former site of the Animal Referral Hospital.
Services at the new facility will begin 2 November.
The new site can be easily accessed from the Princes Freeway, via Boardwalk Boulevard and Palmers Road.
The new building is animal purpose-built, designed to accommodate the comfort and welfare needs of animals. Animals are housed securely in an indoor temperature-controlled building before being reunited with their owners.
Wyndham City Director of City Operations, Stephen Thorpe, said the modern facility will provide a safe and secure place for lost animals.
“Council has been searching for a new pound site for some time. The current Pound building has reached the end of its lifecycle.”
“This is an exciting new modern way of keeping cats and dogs safe before being reunited with their owners,” Mr Thorpe said.
“As a former Animal Referral Hospital, the new pound building is designed specifically to accommodate the needs of cats and dogs.”
“It is exciting for Wyndham City to be able to take on this great space and continue to provide a service that looks out for animals in our community.”
Pound services will commence at the new site on 2 November. Service at the current Old Geelong Road site will remain open to the public until Friday, 30 October.
Service will be provided between 8am until 4pm Monday to Friday by appointment only. Contact 1300 023 411.
Pound services will be closed on Tuesday, 3 November due to the Melbourne Cup public holiday.
All official opening events for the new site are postponed due to current COVID-19 restrictions.
