Timeshare dog beaches back in effect

Timeshare arrangements for dogs on selected beaches in Eurobodalla recommence this Sunday 1 November.

This means that dogs are allowed either on or off leash before 9am and after 5pm on the 18 Eurobodalla beaches with timeshare arrangements.

Under the arrangements, dogs are not allowed on timeshare beaches between 9am and 5pm, from 1 November to 30 April.

The shire has 29 areas allowing 24-hour off leash access and 24 where dogs are prohibited. All National Parks also prohibit dogs.

Eurobodalla Council’s environmental services manager Deb Lenson said ranger patrols at local beaches would increase coming into the summer holiday season and continue into the new year.

“Please ensure you check the signage at your local beach and adhere to the rules.  If you are unsure check Council’s website or give us a call,” she said.

“We are working hard to ensure resident and visiting dog owners are taking responsibility for their pets.

“Dogs must be leashed until they reach off leash areas. When off leash they must remain under control and not bother people or wildlife; that’s common courtesy as not everyone likes dogs.

“Rangers have the option of fining dog owners who disobey these regulations.”

Ms Lenson said the Council continued to receive complaints about dogs being in prohibited areas, particularly Candlagan Creek and Shark Bay at Broulee and Tomakin Cove Beach.

“Rangers will focus efforts in these areas while also ensuring dog owners are utilising timeshare areas in the right times and of course are picking up after their pets,” she said.

“We also need the help of all dog owners and community members to inform us when there is obvious flouting of the rules.”
