Council has resolved to limit the number of all swimming carnivals at the Yass Swimming Pool complex to 300 people (including swimmers, spectators and officials). The decision followed a request received from the Yass Swimming Club to hold a carnival on 6 December 2020 for 500 people. The complex will be limited to 300 for all swimming carnivals. The event on 6 December will be conducted in accordance with the Yass Swimming Club COVID Safety Pan.
Graffiti ArtA proposal from Jade Roche to convert the face of the bridge support under the Laidlaw Street end of the Hume Bridge to a ‘free wall’ for graffiti art has been approved as an initial trial.
Development Application – Highway Service Centre, Yass Valley WayCouncil has issued a Deferred Commencement Development Consent for the establishment of a Highway Service Centre proposed on Yass Valley Way. The commencement of the Development Consent has been deferred until the applicant has completed the subdivision works enabling the creation of legal title for the land. Mayor Rowena Abbey declared an interest as she is part owner of the land that is being sold for the development so removed herself from the debate.
Solar Panel Installation ProposalCouncil approved the proposed installation of solar panels and associated equipment at the Yass Wastewater Treatment Plant, Yass Water Treatment Plant and Works Depot. The proposal will be considered within the quarterly budget review to allocate funds of $20,000 for commencement of the project in 2020/21 and $130,000 (including contingencies) for installation in 2021/22. Opportunities for external funding of solar energy generation projects on its buildings and facilities will continue to be pursued.
Australia Day Awards Selection PanelThe assessment panel for the Australia Day awards will consist of: Mayor Rowena Abbey, Deputy Mayor Nathan Furry, Councillors Cecil Burgess and Kim Turner.
