BUTTON BEACH | NOW OPEN
Central Coast Council 29 Oct 2020

On Monday 26 October a brown sludgy slick in the water at Buttons Beach was reported to the Council. There was also a thick brown foam on the beach.

The Council investigated the concern, and the beach was closed as a precautionary measure in case it wasn’t a natural phenomenon. Water samples were taken from the location of the substance and temporary signage was erected in the area.

Taswater checked wastewater outlets and pump stations in the area and reported that there wasn’t a sewage spill. The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) were notified of the incident.

The slick and foam cleared, and water sample results were confirmed as being at a compliant level on Wednesday 28 October at 3.20pm. Buttons Beach has been re-opened.

The Council conduct regular water monitoring in the area and would like to thank the community for bringing the incident to the attention of the Council and also for their patience and understanding while the beach was closed.
