Nominations for the Blue Mountains Australia Day Award are now open and Council is hopeful that nominations will flow in, to acknowledge those who have served our community in an extraordinary year.
Mayor Mark Greenhill said: “2020 has been a challenging year for everyone; bushfires, floods and pandemic have tested the resilience of us all. It has also brought out the best qualities in us; bravery, compassion, kindness and strength. The Australia Day Awards are your opportunity to thank someone who supported our community through these tough times. Nominating is easy and surprisingly quick.”
The Blue Mountains Local Australia Day Awards are held each year to recognise and reward citizens who make the Blue Mountains community the unique and spirited one it is.
“There are generous, dedicated and innovative people here in the Blue Mountains making a difference each and every day. We know this because we see and benefit from their deeds. We are asking the community to spare ten minutes to fill in a nomination form so we can give those exceptional people the recognition they deserve.”
We are encouraging Blue Mountains residents to nominate in one, or all of the five categories:
• Young Citizen of the Year (24 years and under) • Citizen of the Year (25 – 64 years) • Senior Citizen of the Year (65 years +) • Environmental Citizen of the Year (any age) • Community Achievement of the Year.
Past recipients of the Award have been recognised for achievements across a broad range of activities, including education, emergency services, community development, safety, cultural events, welfare, sports, and business.
