Coffee culture in Eurobodalla will get an extra shot this month with coffee cupping and latte art events, while fresh local produce is on the menu at cafés and restaurants across the shire.
Eurobodalla Council’s events coordinator Tegan Benfield said Taste Eurobodalla had all the right ingredients to get foodies and caffeine fiends up close with the shire’s producers and providers.
“The new venture has even enticed River Cottage Australia host Paul West to front the camera and show-off some of Eurobodalla’s freshest bites,” she said.
Ms Benfield invited both new and experienced baristas to free coffee cupping and latte art workshops at Narooma, Moruya and Batemans Bay. She said not everyone would be familiar with coffee cupping, which is a professional practice but one anyone can try for themselves.
“Much like wine tasting, cupping involves deeply inhaling the coffee aroma followed by some loud slurping to spread it right to the back of the tongue. Then you grade the coffee for mouthfeel, sweetness and acidity – it’s the perfect blend of learning and fun,” Ms Benfield said.
“Following the latte art workshops, baristas can hit us with their best shot at Eurobodalla’s first Latte Art Championship, in Moruya on Thursday 12 November.”
Ms Benfield said the final weeks of Taste Eurobodalla would focus on local produce.
“We have local restaurants and cafes including a special menu item featuring produce from growers in our region, and patrons who order these special dishes also go in the running to win great prizes,” she said.
“We’ll be filming with chef Paul West to create a series of Taste Eurobodalla videos – it’s all about spreading the word about our shire’s potential as a foodie haven.”
