As part of the Local-Is-More initiative, the community are encouraged to choose, think and support local first as part of Live Local Month this November.
Live Local Month encourages people to consider how they can support local businesses in our community and the huge difference that can be made by small changes at an individual level.
Live Local Month encourages the community to support local talent by coming along to an impressive array of community events happening throughout November featuring local musicians, artists, produce and more. Events include open gardens, the Witchcliffe Vintage Fair, local markets, bush tucker workshop, the garage sale trail, MR SAMM skate and music event at the Youth Precinct, the Festival of Forgotten Skills and so much more.
With local businesses and their special offers being featured on the Local-Is-More website and social media, shopping locally this November means locals can not only find a great deal but can also support the businesses who support the community in return. Keeping money circulating locally helps build livelihoods for community members, right when it's needed the most.
To add to the fun, Live Local Month includes a ‘Show us Your Sticker’ competition, with the chance to win a local prize each week in November. To enter, locals simply need to follow the Local-Is-More Instagram page, snap a picture of themselves with their Local-Is-More sticker and upload it to Instagram with the hashtag #localismore.
Shire of Augusta Margaret River Sustainable Economy Officer Saul Cresswell said Live Local Month was a great way for people to challenge themselves to buy local for a month, in what has been a challenging year for so many. “We’re getting close to the end of year, and it has been a tough one for the community and our many small businesses,” he said. “If we finish the year on a high by buying locally, even if just for one month, the flow-on effect for the community and environment would be huge.”
The Local-Is-More initiative is a combined effort between the Shire of Augusta Margaret River, the Margaret River Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MRCCI), Transition Margaret River, Augusta Chamber of Commerce, Margaret River Regional Producers Association and Cowaramup Business Association.
