Lachlan Shire Council is pleased to announce that community feedback on the design for the Shire’s new Visitor Information Centre has been completed and a preferred design has been identified.
The proposed designs were put on display at the Shire’s towns and villages in post offices, grocery stores and supermarkets, pubs and community noticeboards.
They were also on display on Council’s website and there was an online survey. Council officers also surveyed community members in the street at Condobolin and Lake Cargelligo.
Council’s Mayor Cr John Medcalf OAM said the preferred design is a modern take on an Australia homestead which incorporates the main features associated with living on the land.
“It will be an iconic building that will be striking in design and standalone as a part of the visitors experience to the region,” he said.
Now that a preferred design has been identified, an architect will be engaged to prepare detailed design and construction drawings for the necessary approvals and eventual construction of the centre.
The centre is to be built within the Condobolin tourism precinct, which also includes the Utes in the Paddock display. It is being funded by a $10.1million State Government grant to bolster tourism and transport in the Shire, with Council contributing a further $2.6million for roadwork on Gipps Way to the project. Over $3million is allocated for the Visitor Information Centre work with the grant funding announced by Nationals Upper House MP Sam Farraway last August.
It is anticipated that work will commence on the Centre in the last quarter of 2021 and be completed by mid-2022.
Council thanks all community members who participated in the survey.
