Nominations for the 2021 Yass Valley Australia Day Awards are now open. The community is called upon to nominate outstanding individuals and groups that make a significant contribution and difference to the Yass Valley.
“The annual Australia Day Awards is a great way for us to come together as a community, in some way, shape or form, and publicly thank those individuals and groups that work hard to make Yass Valley such a wonderful place to live,” said Yass Valley Mayor, Rowena Abbey.
“After a challenging 2020, it will be particularly fitting to acknowledge the caring and generous contributions of our citizens.”
Awards categories for the 2021 Australia Day awards are:
Citizen of the Year. Young Citizen of the Year. Senior Citizen of the Year. Community Group of the Year. Individual Community Service.All award winners will be announced on Australia Day, Tuesday, 26 January 2020. Council will be working with the Rotary Club of Yass to ensure the event is COVID-19 safe and that the proper processes are implemented according to the public health order in place at the time. More details about this will be provided closer to the date.
Conditions of entry:
Individual nominees must be a resident of the Yass Valley at the time of nomination. Previous nominees who have not received an award, are eligible to be nominated again. Community groups or organisations nominated must be located within Yass Valley. Young Citizen of the Year must be aged under 26 Years as at 26 January 2021. Senior Citizen of the Year must be aged over 65 as at 26 January 2021.The assessment panel for the Australia Day awards will consist of: Mayor Rowena Abbey, Deputy Mayor Nathan Furry, Councillors Cecil Burgess and Kim Turner.

Hard copies of the nomination form are available from Yass Library and Council’s Administration Office, located at 209 Comur Street, Yass.
Nominations will close at 5pm on Friday, 11 December 2020.
