The Department of Transport is introducing changes to clearways across Melbourne to keep traffic flowing smoothly on Melbourne’s busy roads as part of the Clearways Management Program.

From 1 December, every clearway within 20km of Melbourne’s CBD will become a tow-away zone. This includes clearways across the Bayside municipality.

The Department of Transport is increasing enforcement around tow-away zones to create more space on Victoria’s busiest roads making it easier for people to get around as restrictions gradually ease and cars return to the road.

This means vehicles parked illegally in tow-away zones will be towed away so that traffic can keep moving during peak times.

While it will remain an offence to park in a clearway during the restricted times, driver may also receive a fine on top of the vehicle release fee. No new clearways are being created as part of this program.

Bayside clearways that will become tow-away zones are located in the following areas:

St Kilda Street (Beach Road) between Bay Street and Young Street Esplanade (Beach Road) between Young Street and South Road Beach Road between South Road and New Street North Road between Hawthorn Road and Thomas Street

Residences around these locations will receive communications from the Department of Transport over the coming weeks.
