Wyndham City 6 Nov 2020

Wyndham City Council is excited to celebrate and recognise young artists in the community with the return of the Wynnies Art Prize competition.

For the third year in a row, Wyndham City Council and Wyndham Art Gallery will collaborate to bring to life the competition aimed at Wyndham residents under 12 years of age.

The Wynnies Art Prize will run in conjunction with the annual professional competition, the Wyndham Art Prize which is presented from 13 May – 27 June 2021, with entries now open.

The Wynnies competition commences this Friday 6th November and will run until 18 April 2021.

Free digital art workshops for children will also be offered by Council during this time to develop their art skills and create portraits of a favourite person they know.

Children can submit their art entries online via the Wyndham City website or in-person by attending one of Council’s arts events or workshops.

In 2020 entrants to the Wynnies were able to see their work on the library windows in downtown Werribee and similar spectacles are being planned for 2021.

Director of City Design and Liveability, Ludo Campbell-Reid said enabling children with a creative outlet can strengthen their pride and connection to their community. “Giving children creative opportunities like the Wynnies Art Prize helps support their connection to Wyndham.” Mr Campbell-Reid said.

“The competition is a wonderful opportunity to recognise the young talent of Wyndham residents and presenting it in a way that presents a vibrant and bright creative experience for residents and visitors.”

“I encourage all Wyndham children to get involved and be part of the creative fabric of the community.”

The current Wynnies art display will be taken down in late November.
