Whitton Park upgrade improves access for all

A long-held vision for improved access and amenities at Whitton Park, Glenbrook, has been realised thanks to a partnership between Blue Mountains City Council, The Rotary Club of Lower Blue Mountains and the NSW Government.

A new accessible concrete path connecting all-abilities parking to a renovated picnic shelter, with newly-installed accessible seating and tables, has been constructed.

Sponsored by The Rotary Club of the Lower Blue Mountains and delivered by Blue Mountains City Council, the Whitton Park upgrade was possible due to funding received from the State Government’s My Community Projects grants program. 

Blue Mountains Mayor Mark Greenhill joined members of The Rotary Club of the Lower Blue Mountains on 5 November to view the progress of the project. 

“The Whitton Park upgrade is an excellent example of community collaboration. Lower Mountains Rotary achieved the My Community Project grant and Council has managed the construction,” Mayor Greenhill said. 

“Improved accessibility means the park invites people of all ages and mobility to come and visit. It will be an attractive location for families to spend time together, and to enjoy our beautiful environment. With all these improvements brought together, Whitton Park will become a sought-after location.”

Also included in this project works were two new parking spaces, one marked as accessible, a resurfaced slab floor in the picnic shelter and a new bench seat installed along the accessible path. Improved landscaping will further enhance the visitor experience. 

Mayor Mark Greenhill said: “I want to express my deepest gratitude to Rotary for securing the grant, and thank Council staff for their excellent work in lifting our beautiful park to a new level. As Mayor, I will work hard with both the community and the State Government to make sure these projects are a great success.”

The Rotary Club of the Lower Blue Mountains will hold an event to open the upgraded amenities at Whitton Park, Glenbrook at 11am, Thursday 26 November. The My Community Project was made possible by the NSW Generations Fund.
