Millmerran Aquatic Centre will reopen on 11 November 2020, following a decision by Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) to postpone a major upgrade to the facility.

TRC Environment and Community Committee Chair Councillor James O’Shea said the community would be able to enjoy a summer of swimming.

“Council will be operating the facility under a COVID Safe Plan, matching other aquatic facilities in the Region,” Cr O’Shea said.

“For the first two weeks, the pool would be open from Wednesday to Sunday afternoons with a full seven-day service resuming from Saturday 28 November.

“To prepare for the reopening Council has completed some temporary work on the pool shell as well as pump and filter servicing in preparation for the major refurbishment.

Cr O’Shea said that combined with the opening Council would also be kicking off community consultation about the Aquatic Centre upgrade.

“We know the current facility was the best type for the community at that time. We need to make sure we get it right for this generation and future generations,” Cr O’Shea said.

“Council wants to find out from the community what the next 60 years look like for the facility.

“Is the best option a 50-metre outdoor pool, or an indoor 25-metre pool, perhaps a water park? Let us know what you think.

“You can have your say until Friday 11 December through Council’s Your Say website or look out for a postcard in your mailbox in the coming weeks.”
