• 28Eighty's Craig Ferguson and Jodi Beattie with Mayor Darriea Turley AM, First National Broken Hill Principal/Director Zeta Bennett, and Council's General Manager James Roncon.
The city's newest cafe will be fully opened tomorrow as Jodi Beattie and Craig Ferguson launch '28Eighty' at the Broken Hill Airport.
The cafe features an entirely new commercial-grade kitchen and will offer a greatly expanded range of food and freshly cooked meals.
28Eighty will specialise in handmade burgers, but will also offer all-day breakfast, fresh sandwiches, wraps and rolls, house made sweet and savoury pastries, alcoholic beverages, and private-label coffee from a boutique Sydney roaster.
Craig and Jodi said they were excited to offer their range of quality food to locals and visitors alike.
"The opportunity to add to the hospitality offerings of our beautiful city was one that we jumped at when the chance arose," said Craig.
"We can't compliment the Council, Paul Bartlett Builders and contractors highly enough for the work they have undertaken to provide the new modern kitchen and service area, it has far and away exceeded any expectations that we could possibly have had," said Jodi.
Mayor Darriea Turley AM said the cafe would be an asset not just for the Airport precinct, but for South Broken Hill and community groups.
"This venture represents more than just food for visitors, it offers another quality dining option for South residents and I'm sure it's going to be very popular with the many people who work in the airport precinct," she said.
"The airport has traditionally been a favourite place for community groups to meet and enjoy a quiet lunch or morning tea, and I'm sure they'll all be eager to return and try all the new food and drinks on offer."
The lease of the new business was handled by First National Broken Hill, and Principal/Director Zeta Bennett wished Craig and Jodi every success for the future.
"From our perspective it's been a rewarding challenge to promote for expressions of interest and find the right operators and work with them to achieve their dream," said Ms Bennett.
"I believe 28eighty is well positioned to be successful and a wonderful addition to the airport and the city for locals and visitors alike."
The café will initially operate around incoming and outgoing flights and gradually expand its hours as the business becomes established.
