Council planning scheme goes digital

Posted on November 10, 2020

Council has moved to a web-based geographical information system (GIS software) platform for its planning scheme which provides the community with interactive, instantaneous and up-to-date planning information on demand.

Specifically, the e–portal allows the community to:

Search for a property by lot or address and view aerial imagery, zone and overlay mapping.  Request and receive a property report instantly identifying the relevant overlays and sections/codes of the planning scheme for a lot.  Download and print code compliance tables and PDFs of the Central Highlands Regional Council Planning Scheme 2016.   Use a comparison tool to highlight differences between current and previous draft planning scheme versions.   Provide commentary on proposed amendments to the planning scheme during the public notification period.

General Manager Communities John McDougall welcomed the new system.

‘This GIS software enables council to store, visualise and display location–based data.

‘Improving accessibility to the scheme will ultimately lead to a better-informed community and further encourage sustainable local land use and development.

‘The interactive mapping platform makes navigating the planning scheme so much easier for residents and streamlines many of the processes involved with development,’ he said.

The project was partially funded by round two of the Planning Innovation and Improvement Fund, which is managed by the Queensland Treasury.
