Want to earn $$ by recycling drink cans, bottles and other containers? Here’s your opportunity to have your say on the Victorian Government’s proposed container recycling scheme.

The scheme forms part of a new Victorian Circular Economy Policy, responding to changes in international recycling markets including China’s 2018 ban of imported mixed recyclables.

Council has called for a container deposit scheme for many years as part of our advocacy for greater investment in the recycling industry and better recovery of recyclables..

Drink cans and bottles account for almost half of Victoria’s litter. Using a cash reward for the return of drink cans and bottles to collection points, provides a strong reason to recycle rather than litter.

The scheme will also create new jobs, provide new income streams for existing businesses and strengthen the Victorian economy.

This is an important opportunity to shape the future of recycling in our state.
