Cohuna residents and visitors will be able to experience the waterside fun of Cohuna Beach when it opens to the public on Saturday, 21 November 2020.
Located within the rejuvenated Apex Park precinct, Cohuna Beach forms part of Stage 2 of the Cohuna Waterfront Redevelopment, which is boosting recreational opportunities available to residents and visitors.
“Construction of Cohuna Beach has generated plenty of community interest since the announcement of the project earlier this year,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.
“This new precinct will provide residents and visitors with a fun area to play and relax by the beautiful Gunbower Creek, particularly during the warmer months.”
Initial works involved transporting an initial layer of sand in the area between the two Apex Park jetties, coinciding with the annual period when the height of Gunbower Creek is low.
The installation of a retaining wall and lighting, as well as the topping up of the sand on-site, is to be completed in the coming days.
“Council thanks the Cohuna community for their patience as these works occurred,” Mr O’Reilly said.
“Once completed, this precinct will tie in with works planned as part of the $3.4 million Cohuna CBD and Waterfront Development, with further community consultation to occur in the coming months.”
