The Darwin Community will be the beneficiaries of a new public art project in Bicentennial Park, to be developed in partnership with Larrakia Nation.
City of Darwin has invited expressions of interest from Australian-based public art makers to create a standalone public sculpture for Bicentennial Park, with the release of a tender today.
The successful applicant will co-conceptualise, design and install the public sculpture in a genuine collaboration with Larrakia Nation, while mentoring an emerging Larrakia artist.
Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said the Project has the full support and approval of Elected Members.
“This Council is committed to delivering high-quality public art commissions across our city, as set out in City of Darwin’s Strategic Plan - creating a vibrant and creative city.”
“The successful tenderer will create a public artwork that reflects a Larrakia story relevant to that location, which is of historical and cultural significance.”
“The artwork will enhance an already iconic location,” Lord Mayor Vatskalis concluded.
The Project will be installed at the Daly Street end of Bicentennial Park, with the exact location to be determined in collaboration with Larrakia Nation and the City of Darwin project steering group.
This Project forms part of City of Darwin’s ongoing THRIVE Public Art Program.
