The six-laning of the Captain Cook Highway from Grove St to the Caravonica roundabout is among a list of recommendations made by Council to improve traffic flow in Cairns.
Council has provided the State and Federal Governments with a list of short- to medium-term road projects that require action to ensure the smooth and safe movement of traffic.
The 12 identified projects cover a range of road, bridge and intersection upgrades on the major transport corridors in Cairns including the Bruce Highway, Captain Cook Highway, Cairns Western Arterial Road, and Spence Street.
Priority projects include increasing the lanes on the Captain Cook Highway, duplication of the Barron River Bridge and an upgrade of the Pease St/Reservoir Rd intersection.
This resolution is to be ratified at the next Ordinary Meeting of Council, to be held on 25 November 2020.
