Building approvals surge MEDIA RELEASE

The construction sector in Cairns is experiencing strong growth, with 271 building approvals in the four months to October, 64 per cent higher than the same period last year.

There was a total of 75 approvals for new dwellings in October, 67 per cent higher than the corresponding month in 2019.

The upward trend is thought to be fuelled by significant State and Federal incentives, along with Council’s COVID-19 Response – Investment Incentive Policy, which is aimed at supporting small scale development, such as those being considered by “mum and dad” investors, where infrastructure charges may be a barrier.
