The implementation of incentive policies, a multi-million dollar funding agreement with Tropical Tourism North Queensland and the fast-tracking of the Esplanade Dining Precinct, demonstrate Council’s commitment to revitalising the Cairns City.
A report tabled at Council today noted an update on the implementation of recommendations outlined in a commercial review of the Cairns City Centre by advisory firm Urbis.
Urbis was engaged to undertake a commercial review of the city centre to understand current activity, future trends, challenges and opportunities and ways in which Council, and others, can further support business/commercial activity in the area.
Today’s report highlighted Council’s ongoing actions to enhance the City Centre, which also includes the completion of the Florence Street Link, funding and support of major events such as IRONMAN Cairns and Targa GBR rally, as well as Courthouse heritage refurbishment project and ongoing advocacy to the Queensland and Federal Governments seeking funding for the proposed $40 million Gallery Precinct Project.
