The Cairns Jewish community has been given permission to display a menorah for the duration of the Chanukah (Hanukkah) holiday period, from December 10 to 17.
In a show of religious solidarity and respect, the menorah – a multi-branched candelabrum lit during the eight-day holiday of Chanukah – will be on display near to Council’s Christmas tree at its new home on Shields Street.
The menorah serves as a symbol of North Queensland's dedication to religious freedom and the right of all to practice their faith.
