Strategy to elevate public art MEDIA RELEASE

A framework to facilitate an improved, integrated and holistic public art program, has been adopted by Council.

The Strategy for Public Art and Creative Placemaking sets out procedures and guidelines for the commissioning, management, maintenance, de-accessioning and implementation of public art.

Council also approved amendments to the current Public Art Policy, to ensure consistency with the objectives, scope and procedures of the Public Art strategy.

The Strategy for Public Art and Creative Placemaking, along with the amended Public Art Policy, provides guidelines and procedures in three core areas:

New Works: The acquisition of art works for public space and the contribution of artists to the design of public space.Public Programs: Projects, programs and activities that encourage increased civic and cultural identity, community awareness and involvement.Collections Management: Refers to existing public art assets in Council's ownership, care or on Council controlled land.

This resolution is to be ratified at the next Ordinary Meeting of Council, to be held on 25 November 2020.
