Dramatised walks in the historic McLeod Street Pioneer Cemetery are set to continue after Council today endorsed a new three-year agreement to support the annual production.

Cairns District Family History Society’s Shadows from the Past production at the McLeod Street Pioneer Cemetery has been a signature event in the Cairns calendar since 2014.

Under the direction of professional actor Rachel Terry from Box Jelly Theatre Company, this year’s production, which was a collaboration with Smithfield State High School’s Arts and English departments, was fully sold out.

More than 300 people attended the eight performances in September, which also featured five Smithfield State High School students as part of their curriculum.

Council will provide an annual $12,000 contribution towards production costs, as well as ticketing services.

This resolution is to be ratified at the next Ordinary Meeting of Council, to be held on 25 November 2020.
