Level 2 water restrictions apply from 12:00pm, Friday 20 November 2020, until further notice.

Snowy Monaro Regional Council is currently carting water to Bredbo.

Water in the bores that normally supply Bredbo has failed to improve in quality after recent rainfall caused minor flooding of the Murrumbidgee River.

To keep demand low, Council will place Bredbo on level 2 water restrictions.

Level 2 water restrictions will assist in ensuring sufficient water is carted to meet Bredbo’s water demand through this period. Residents are encouraged to keep their water usage low to avoid the need for higher-level water restrictions.

Council is currently carting enough water for residents to undertake normal indoor water use: drinking, cleaning, washing, and bathing. All outdoor water use should be minimised.

Council encourages residents to also minimise their indoor water use through measures such as keeping showering under five minutes, turning the tap off while brushing teeth, fixing leaking taps and toilets, and only running washing machines and dishwashers when full.

These restrictions will apply to all properties connected to the Bredbo water supply scheme. The restrictions will apply until further notice. More stringent restrictions may be imposed should conditions fail to improve.

Under Section 637 of the Local Government Act 1993, a person who willfully or negligently wastes or misuses water from the public water supply, or causes any such water to be wasted, is guilty of an offence for which the maximum penalty is a fine of $2,200.

Council will make all reasonable efforts to make residents aware of water restrictions before issuing any penalties
