Kerang CBD Redevelopment - Stage 2 works to begin

Published on 12 November 2020

Work on Stage 2 of the Kerang CBD Redevelopment will begin on Monday, 16 November, focusing on Scoresby Street between Albert and Boundary streets.

The works, which form part of the $1.317 million project funded by the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, will improve pedestrian access along Scoresby Street and create new car parking spaces.

“Inspired from the works undertaken by the development of the Kerang CBD Master Plan, Stage 2 of the Kerang CBD Redevelopment will provide a link between the Kerang Railway Station, the award-winning Victoria Square precinct and the Kerang Open Space Precinct,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.

“These improvements will tie into future works planned along Scoresby Street up to Fitzroy Street, and the community feedback collated during September has assisted with the design of these improvements.”

As part of the works, the footpath along the northern side of Scoresby Street between Albert and Boundary streets will be widened to 1.5 metres, with a traffic island to be installed along the length of the road.

“Due to the installation of this new traffic island, 45-degree angle parking will be converted to parallel parking to improve the safety of all road users,” Mr O’Reilly said.

Traffic interruptions and speed restrictions will be in place whilst these improvements occur, with motorists and pedestrians advised to be mindful of changed arrangements.

“The contractors employed to undertake these works will specifically contact residents and businesses whose properties will be directly impacted by these improvements,” Mr O’Reilly said.

“Council thanks motorists and pedestrians for their patience as these works are completed.”
