Nominations for the 2021 Yass Valley Australia Day Awards are now open. The community is called upon to nominate outstanding individuals and groups that make a significant contribution and difference to the Yass Valley. Award categories for the 2021 Australia Day awards are:
Citizen of the Year. Young Citizen of the Year. Senior Citizen of the Year. Community Group of the Year. Individual Community Service.Nominations may be submitted by community groups, organisations and individuals using the nomination form.

Flood clean upA reminder that contractors will be undertaking damage repairs to the Low Level Crossing in Yass over the next few days. The gates and path surrounding the Low Level Crossing will be closed/blocked off to the public from 8am on today and tomorrow (16-17 November). You will not be able to cross (drive or walk) through the area while this work is being undertaken.
Gundaroo streetscapes to start Monday, 16 NovemberCouncil has engaged a contractor to undertake works within Gundaroo. These works include construction of a new footpath to align with the existing footpath in front of the Recreation Ground on Cork Street, remediation works to the existing footpath on Lot Street and also construction of a new footpath to align with the existing footpath on Lot Street. These works will commence today (Monday, 16 November), starting on Cork Street. Works are anticipated to be completed by early December 2020 (weather permitting).

Swimming pool remindersThe COVID-19 health pandemic has seen the NSW Government introduce Public Health Orders across the State in an effort to limit the risk of community transmission of the virus. The orders require the implementation of a COVID-19 Safety Plan as prescribed by NSW Health. As part of the COVID-19 Safety Plan in place at Yass and Binalong Pools, the change rooms and shower facilities will be generally closed (except for school groups on a case-by-case basis and for use by disabled patrons). The toilets are always open. Please come ‘swim ready’ to the pool. This means dressed in your swimmers and ready to swim. Help us keep everyone safe this summer! November swimming lessons are booked out. January intensive lesson details will be released soon.
Free road safety workshops for older road usersYass Valley Council is hosting two free workshops dedicated to providing information for senior road users on Wednesday, 25 November 2020 - Mobility Scooter Workshop from 10.30am to 12pm and 65 Plus Workshop from 1pm to 3.30pm. The workshops aim to provide practical information on mobility scooters and to help road users over the age of 65 years maintain their independence by providing them with details on changes to licensing requirements for people aged 75 and over, as well as a road rules refresher. Service NSW is returning to Binalong in Mobile Service CentreThe Service NSW Binalong Mobile Service Centre will be at the Mechanics Institute Hall on Tuesday, 8 December from 1.30pm to 3.30pm. Service NSW staff on board can provide support across a broad range of services including:
• Renewing a driver licence or vehicle registration. • Processing of Medical and Mobility Parking Permits. • Processing of RSA and RCG cards. • Undertaking driver knowledge tests. • Applying for births, deaths and marriages certificates. • Applications and Renewals for Working with Children Checks. • Consulting with a Cost of Living specialist for help accessing more than 70 government rebates and savings. • Mobile Service Centres will accept cashless payments by credit and debit card or cheque.
Public Consultation Submissions welcome for Civic PrecinctIn February 2020, Council endorsed a ‘wish list’ of projects and resolved to undertake planning and design work so the projects would be ‘shovel ready’ in the event of grant funding opportunities. One of these projects is a Civic Precinct, which would include a new library, community rooms and exhibition spaces, long term Government tenants and the retention of Crago's Mill among other elements. Council is keen to understand if the elements for inclusion in the Civic Precinct meet community needs and expectations. Tenders Wee Jasper Road Segment 68 & Good Hope Road Intersection Road Rehabilitation YVC-IA-09-2020Council has identified Segment 68 of the Wee Jasper Road and the Wee Jasper/Good Hope Road intersection, for upgrade. This section of road is in poor condition and requires rehabilitation and widening to improve serviceability. Council, through a combination of funding through Transport for NSW Regional Road Repair Program and internal funding plan to undertake the works in the 2020/21 financial year. The road rehabilitation area commence approximately 2.4km south of the Wee Jasper Road/Victoria Street intersection in Yass, and continues for approximately 1.2km finishing just to the south of the Good Hope Road intersection.
