RECONCILIATION | COUNCIL IS COMMENCING ITS JOURNEY
Central Coast Council 17 Nov 2020

The challenges that we have all faced this year have reinforced the importance of social and family connections, and highlighted how lucky we are to live in north west Tasmania. That knowledge is something that Aboriginal people have carried across our region for tens of thousands of years.

The Council recognises that history, and we are starting our journey of reconciliation, which is a process to inspire and enable all Australians to build relationships, respect and trust between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-indigenous residents. The first step in that journey began during NAIDOC week earlier this month, when a working group from Council will participate in the “Come Walk With Us” cultural awareness training run by Reconciliation Tasmania and UTAS.

We will use the framework provided by Reconciliation Australia to develop a Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan. This will provide us with practical actions to help further reconciliation within Council, and across our community.
