Nominations for Byron Shire Council’s 2021 Australia Day Awards are now open.

The annual awards recognise individuals and community groups who do amazing work in the Byron Shire.

Mayor Simon Richardson said the Australia Day awards are a way for Council, on behalf of the community, to say ‘thank you’ to some talented and inspiring residents who contribute to the diverse social fabric of the Byron Shire.

Nominations are being accepted in the following categories:

Citizen of the Year Young Citizen of the Year Senior Citizen of the Year Volunteer of the Year Creative Artist of the Year Environmental Project of the Year Community Event of the Year

“We all know someone who is worthy of one of these awards so I encourage people to take the time to fill out a nomination form on their behalf.

“It’s always a wonderful thrill for people who are nominated to know that someone cared enough to take put their names forward for an Australia Day Award,” Mayor Richardson said.
