Council’s Strategic Planning team will hold community information sessions over the next fortnight to provide further information and to help our community have their say on the Draft Rural Land Use and Settlements Strategies.

Both documents are generating plenty of discussion and I encourage people to provide their feedback to Council.

Dates and times for these community sessions are available on Council’s website, Facebook page or by contacting Council directly.

Improving our recycling habits is a focus of this year’s National Recycling Week and Council’s Resource and Waste Education Team is hosting a series of information displays to help our community’s recycling efforts. Contact Council or visit our Facebook page for display locations. We can all do our part to reduce our overall waste and the knowledgeable education team will be on hand for a friendly chat about the ways we can improve our recycling.

Recyclables collected in the Snowy Monaro are transported and processed at the Materials Recovery Facility in Hume, ACT, and do not go to landfill.

Our region is highly regarded amongst anglers and last week, 430 tagged rainbow trout were released into the Snowy Monaro’s lakes, rivers and waterways. The Snowy Trout Challenge is now in full flight and I wish all anglers the best of luck.

Fishing is one of just a number of activities our region boasts come the warmer months. With COVID-19 restrictions easing in many places across the country, we are hopeful for a strong summer tourism period to help our businesses recover from the bushfire period and COVID-19.

There is only one week left for community organisations to apply for the latest round of Council’s donation and sponsorship program.

Around $50,000 was delivered to community organisations and events through the first round of the program in 2020.

To apply, visit Council’s website or any Council office for an application form and information pack. Submissions close 5pm Wednesday 11 November 2020.

Council will decide the successful applicants at its December Council Meeting.
