Towns and villages throughout the Snowy Monaro welcomed an influx of visitors across the long weekend. It was pleasing to see our beautiful region busy as our business and tourism operators continue to work hard to ensure they are meeting COVID-19 guidelines.
The October long weekend marks the official start of the fishing season. Anglers of all abilities are encouraged to try their hand and fish in the pristine rivers, streams and lakes our region has to offer.
Last week, Councillors received a briefing from Monaro Rural Fire Service District Manager Jim Darrant. The Snowy Monaro’s bushfire period started on October 1 and the RFS is encouraging families to prepare and discuss their bushfire survival plan. There are plenty of helpful resources on the NSW RFS website or you can contact the Monaro RFS for assistance.
Bushfire recovery is still an ongoing priority for our region. The Local Bushfire Recovery Team is continuing to assist people and they are working hard to drive community-led recovery initiatives.
The Recovery Team has partnered with the Monaro Family Support Service to hold a series of Women Community Connect events throughout the region.
The connect events are designed to bring women in bushfire affected communities together to share stories and support each other through the recovery journey.
We always welcome feedback from our community on projects such as these. Your input is invaluable.
The Cooma Sports Hub project presents an exciting opportunity to enhance grassroots sport in the Snowy Monaro and provide a state-of-the-art precinct capable of hosting regional level events.
The $15 million facility will feature a three-court indoor sport facility at Monaro High School and a synthetic athletics track and field at the Snowy Oval sporting precinct.
Our community will play an important part in the facility coming to fruition. Your initial thoughts on the project will help guide the project team.
A concept plan has been released and is available through Your Say Snowy Monaro or at any Council office, library and visitor centre.
