At last week’s Ordinary Council Meeting, Councillor Lynley Miners was re-elected as deputy mayor. Congratulations to Lynley who has served as our region’s deputy mayor since Council was elected in September 2017.

I look forward to continuing to work with Lynley over the next 12 months as our Snowy Monaro deals with drought, recovers from the bushfires and lives with the the challenges of COVID-19. We are focused on ensuring our region continues to be a wonderful place to live.

The next NSW Council Elections will be held on Saturday 4 September 2021 after the current term of Council was extended beyond September 2020 due to the impact of COVID-19.

In the public forum section of the Council Meeting, a Cooma resident delivered well thought out presentation requesting an extension to the feedback period for a development application.

The Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia has submitted a DA, seeking Council’s approval to construct a recreational vehicle park in Hawkins Street, Cooma.

Council has extended the feedback period for this DA until 5pm Tuesday 6 October. The DA and accompanying documents are available for inspection at Council’s Cooma and Jindabyne offices, and on Council’s website.

On Sunday 27 September, the Bombala Landfill will host our region’s Household Chemical Cleanout event.

Council will partner with the NSW Environmental Protection Authority and Cleanaway to provide residents with an opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted pesticides, batteries, household cleaners and other chemicals.

The cleanout takes place between 10am and 2.30pm. Only household waste quantities will be accepted. This is a free initiative, and well supported by our community.

New gates have been installed at the Adaminaby and Berridale playgrounds following feedback from our community. The gates will help to bring peace of mind to parents while their children enjoy the recreational areas.

With the school holidays approaching, the team at Snowy Monaro Regional Library has put together another fantastic range of activities. Visit their Facebook page, website or contact Council to find out more.
