Shire of Ashburton residents are politely reminded to continue to be courteous and respectful of others while exercising their dogs.

Be in control of your dog at all times. Keep your dog on a leash unless in one of the following designated dog exercise areas:

• Onslow: at the foreshore between high and low watermarks (west of First Avenue boat ramp to Four Mile Creek); Thalanyji Oval

• Paraburdoo: Peter Sutherland Oval, corner Fortescue Road and Nickel Avenue; Top Oval, corner Fortescue Place and Fortescue Road; Grass Reserve, corner Fortescue Road and Ashburton Avenue

• Tom Price: Clem Thompson Memorial Oval; Tjiluna Oval; Minna Oval; the area next to Lions Park on North Road

In the event that the above off-leash dog exercise areas are being used by sporting and community groups, consideration needs to be given to ensure your dog is kept under your control during these times.

Be mindful of other dogs and people, and, if necessary, restrain your dog while they pass by. Be particularly mindful of children, who are less cautious and may approach your dog without understanding the risks. Learn to understand the signs that your dog is anxious or uncomfortable and intervene before an attack occurs.

Our maintenance crews take great care of our dog exercise areas to ensure they are pleasant all year round. Please return the favour by cleaning up after your dog. Bags are often provided in the dog tidy dispensers but ensure you bring some along.

By doing our part we can all continue to enjoy public spaces with our pets.
