A special Christmas concert for seniors and an inaugural 12 Days of Christmas pop-up music series are some of the ways Liverpool City Council will bring Christmas cheer to Liverpool this December.

“This December we will proudly provide an array of fun activities, the majority of which are free, to get people into the Christmas spirit following what has been a challenging year for many,” Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said.

“To officially kick-off our bonanza of festive season activities, I will be lighting our beautiful Christmas tree in Macquarie Mall and chatting with Santa in a video that will be streamed on Council’s Facebook page on 1 December.

“I’m also delighted to announce that, thanks to the generous support of Catholic Healthcare, on 10 December we’ll be hosting a free and online Christmas edition of our Seniors Concert.

“A perennial favourite for the over 65s, our Christmas Seniors Concert will feature the talented Starliners trio performing popular carols in a cabaret-style tribute to female acts of the 1960s.”

Council will also launch its inaugural 12 Days of Christmas music series, running 1 to 12 December, bringing Christmas carols to the streets of Liverpool as people shop local.

“For the first time we are delighted to support local musicians, each showcasing their unique style and culture, through a series of busking-style pop-ups to bring Christmas cheer to people as they go about their gift shopping at local businesses,” Mayor Waller said.

“You’ll hear all your favourite Christmas anthems as well as, in true Liverpool style, some traditional carols from across the world.

“The busking-style performances will pop-up at busy locations in the Liverpool city centre and are another way we are encouraging members of the community to shop and eat local.”

A range of fun hands-on activities for children and adults will also be hosted at Liverpool City Library branches and Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre.

Council wishes to thank Catholic Healthcare for sponsoring the Christmas Seniors Concert.

Council’s Christmas activities will be held between 1 and 18 December. Visit www.liverpool.nsw.gov.au/christmas for more information and to register for an event.
