On Q to revitalise Queen Street

Public art, markets and live music are just some of the things residents will soon see on Queen Street as part of On Q, a year-long program to test ideas that will enhance Campbelltown’s CBD and create a more vibrant main street.

From November to October next year, Council will be testing a number of ideas in different locations in the shopping precinct of Queen St (between Cordeaux St and Dumaresq St and on Lithgow Street) that aim to enhance the street’s aesthetic, entertainment and cultural appeal.

Ideas such as live music, public art, wider footpaths, seating, shared spaces for vehicles and cyclists, additional trees and gardens, stalls and markets and outdoor dining are just some of the initiatives residents can expect to see happening as part of On Q over the  next 12 months.

“The revitalisation of Queen St was one of the central themes of our community consultation during our Reimagining Campbelltown City Centre Master Plan,” Mayor George Brticevic said.

“On Q will create a series of temporary activities and attractions along Queen Street throughout next year with the aim of finding out what works for our community so that we can take the best of these ideas and make them part of the fabric of our CBD,” Cr Brticevic said.

“Queen Street is the heart of our city and should be a reflection of Campbelltown’s place as an emerging metropolitan centre in south west Sydney and On Q will provide us with a chance to bring some exciting new ideas to our main street,” he said.

The revitalisation of the Queen Street precinct is a priority project in Council’s Reimagining Campbelltown City Centre Master Plan over the next five years.

The project is funded by the NSW Government through the Streets as Shared Spaces grants.
