Upgrades to two popular Northern Beaches parks at Collaroy Plateau and Manly will be ready for action before Christmas, and more renewals are coming soon.
A new, astronomy-themed playground at Collaroy Plateau Park was recently completed as part of bigger upgrades at the reserve. Last month, a new commemorative shelter was unveiled, recognising the 75th anniversary of the world’s first successful radio observations from the sun using a RAAF WWII radar unit at the site.
The new playground has been described as ‘out of this world’ and includes a swing set with three swinging options, a climbing box with monkey bars, a junior rocket ship with slide, a spinning capsule, a rocker and more.
The astronomy themed playground links with the historical background of the site to suit a range of ages and abilities. The new shade structure, seating and a water refill station make it extra comfortable for all. Landscaping and tree planting are still to come but once complete will improve the look of the whole park and provide a cooler environment for children and families to play.
In Manly, the very popular playground at North Steyne beachfront will soon be temporarily closed while the rubber surface is replaced and the central playground unit is upgraded.
The new and inclusive equipment includes a double and single slide, a climbing net and wall, play panels and plenty of interactive play elements.
The playground will be closed for works between Tuesday 1 – Friday 11 December 2020, weather permitting.
The Plateau Park Playground has been upgraded with some assistance from the Everyone Can Play program from the NSW Government which aims to improve our public play spaces with adventure, discovery, relationship building and creating joy and memories.
Council aims to provide not only exciting and vibrant play spaces but to connect the whole community, in particular connecting children of all abilities to natural areas. Greater accessibility to play spaces enables people of all-abilities to participate in play and reap the benefits of increased physical activity, social interaction and mental stimulation.
