Council expands its sewering network

Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) will continue to increase its level of service to businesses in rural parts of the Region by expanding its sewering network in the Torrington area.

As part of a program of works, TRC Waste and Water Committee Chair Councillor Rebecca Vonhoff said Council would invest about $4.4 million into new infrastructure.

“It’s important we’re able to provide our Torrington businesses with the same level of services that our businesses receive in the urban areas,” She said.

“In recent years we’ve sewered parts of Gowrie Junction, Kingsthorpe, Pittsworth and Westbrook. The network has also been extended to remove expensive pump out tanks in Charlton and Meringandan West.

“The Torrington area has been identified as a high priority as part of a much larger sewering program. It’s an area of growing business and industry and important to the local economy.”

The area includes the following roads:

TRC Waste and Water Committee portfolio lead Councillor Nancy Sommerfield said it was important to sewer these areas to protect the environment and ensure public health and safety.

“We live at the headwaters to the Murray Darling system so it’s important we continue to improve water quality,” she said.

“In addition to this, the expansion of the network will help stimulate growth for both residential development and non-residential development which will in turn allow businesses to grow and provide more jobs for the Region.

“Sewering the industrial area of Torrington will assist industries and allow them to expand their respective businesses.”
