An area in front of Malmsbury Mechanics Institute has been cordoned off and residents are advised to avoid the area after a routine inspection of the building by Council identified a structural issue with the front façade.
There is a crack in the stone/brick wall at the front of the building and part of the top parapet wall has become loose.
In order to minimise risk to pedestrians, the footpath in front of the institute will be closed until further notice.
A structural engineer and Council’s Municipal Building Surveyor will assess the building and recommend the appropriate next steps.
The institute will remain closed, and user groups and neighbouring property owners have been informed.
