North Wall public car park is being relocated, reconfigured and upgraded to reclaim recreation space for the community, provide more car parks and improve accessibility.
The $1,338,000 North Wall North Wall Car Park Upgrade is jointly funded by Coffs Harbour City Council and the Australian Government Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications, through a Local Roads Community Infrastructure Program Grant of $600,000.
Coffs Harbour City Council Director of Sustainable Infrastructure Mick Raby said the North Wall Car Park is going to get a fresh green look.
“The landscaping, picnic facilities, seating, new shower and dog wash area, new shared pathways and other improvements will provide an enhanced recreational area with magnificent sightlines to the beach and the Solitary Islands.
“North Wall car park, north of Marina Drive, currently provides 20 car spaces. The community will be pleased to know the redesign and relocation of the car park slightly west of the foreshore will enable public parking to be increased to a total of 63 spaces, including accessible parking.”
Works are scheduled to begin in March 2021, with completion expected mid-2021, weather permitting. The works timeframe is scheduled to occur outside the peak Christmas/New Year school holiday period, to minimise impacts on trade, traffic and public enjoyment of the Harbour and Foreshores.
Council manages various commercial licences to support community and visitor activities in the North Wall Foreshore and Jetty Foreshores areas, including surf schools, fitness classes, sports competitions, major sports and social events, Jetty Markets, the annual Christmas/New Year carnival and various food and drink vendor operations. The North Wall Carpark upgrade will enhance experiences for all the community.
The Council and Australian Government partnership is not part of the recently-announced NSW Government planning for the remainder of Jetty Foreshores land east of the railway line.
